Framers and Impeachment

Uncle Sam,

Please, ignore your angry feminine side for a moment, and give some respect to the Founding Fathers

When our constitution’s framers gave the House of Representatives  the power to impeach a sitting President, they realized the power could be abused. For instance, “if the President was a member of one political party and the house majority members, were of different political party, the house majority could, theoretically, use its impeachment powers to gain a political advantage or even overthrow (with the help of the US Senate) the results of a presidential election.”

The Framers imagined the consequences of having only two political parties and debated the House’s impeachment power. They spoke of the depth of darkness in men’s souls and their common love of country. In the end, they left the possibility open.

Perhaps they would have decided differently if they had imagined, one day the Speaker of the House would be a scornful old woman
