We tell ourselves we are too busy to become involved with local politics, and issues that do not affect us directly. We will debate and vote in “the big” elections, but we don’t have the time to listen to (or vote for) neighbors who are running for a seat on the Republican or Democratic township committee. We don’t have the time to get to know them or have the resources to properly vet them. Many of them appear to be selfish jerks in search of political power and personal gain; rarely are they good, altruistic people running for the benefit of their neighborhood.

The Democratic Party is a hierarchy of committees with neighborhood representatives at its base. These local committees choose their municipal party leaders and candidates from amongst themselves. They in turn choose county leaders and candidates from amongst themselves. The county committees do the same for the states and finally the state committees choose the party’s national leaders. The national leaders select presidential candidates and give their blessing to congressional and gubernatorial candidates.

The National Democratic Party has about 447 voting members and several dozen non-voting members. This small group makes political policies and selects Democratic candidates for the highest offices. They also provide campaign financing and support. In exchange the party’s leadership demands respect for seniority, and unwavering party loyalty. Often times that means; “committee members must put the welfare of the party before the welfare of the American people”.

The Republican Party structure is the similar to the Democratic party’s structure. It also has it’s share of corrupt politicians and amoral representatives.

It is our duty as citizens to safeguard our constitution by expelling all political party profiteers and phony representatives. There are a lot of them and it requires a plan that cannot be easily subverted by a party’s top committees. The movement must start at the bottom. Voters need to replace their neighborhood party stooges with good, fair, and reasonable people. The replacements must have the courage to put the welfare of their neighbors before the welfare of their party. They must also remind other committee members that “they all serve at the pleasure of the voters” and that in our country “Political power flows from the bottom-up not from the top-down”.

Let us remind our local officials, “they may be able to get a pothole fixed but they don’t have the authority to change state and federal laws, so stop campaigning on the party’s national slogans and concentrate on issues they can change”. Then remind the members of the state and national committees they were not appointed by the head of the party, but by the committees below them.

It’s time to publicly monitor and report on all our reps and to keep them on a short leash.
