Who should represent the people in the national government?
People elected to Congress will come from many walks of life. It will be their job to make decisions that help the whole country.
It is our job to choose leaders who have experience solving problems, good judgment, knowledge of the law and the trust of their communities. Representatives need these qualities to make wise decisions.
Once someone is elected, they do not represent only one group; they represent everyone in their district. Including the people who did not vote for them. Good representatives listen to many different points of view before making decisions that are good for the whole country.
If our representatives are not doing a great job, it is our duty to vote for someone who will, in the next election. This keeps government responsible to the people.
The best government is one where: different people share ideas, leaders listen to their communities, and decisions are made for the good of the whole country. Even though people have different jobs and opinions, they can still work together.
