Who should have the power to make treaties with other countries, and how should that power be shared?
Because treaties can strongly affect the country, they must be made carefully.
If only the President made treaties, one person could make mistakes. Personal interests could influence decisions. There would be less review or discussion, and other leaders would have no say. It could be risky for the country.
The Senate is needed because Senators can carefully review treaties. They bring different viewpoints from across states. They can stop bad or harmful agreements, and they help ensure decisions are well thought out. So, treaty power is shared.
Sharing treaty power prevents one person from having too much control, encourages better decision-making, reduces the chance of corruption or mistakes, and makes agreements more trustworthy.
Treaties are serious because they affect Peace and war, Trade and money, Relationships with other countries, and National safety. They must be handled with great care.
The President negotiates treaties and the Senate approves them. Both must agree before a treaty is official
This ensures cooperation and balance.
