How should judges be paid, and how can we make sure they stay fair and independent?
Judges should keep their jobs as long as they behave properly. They should not fear losing their job for making unpopular decisions. They must focus on the law, not politics. They need stability to do their job well and they should not be controlled by Congress or the President
Judges should receive a steady salary. It helps them focus only on justice. It prevents them from needing other jobs or favors. It protects them from pressure or bribery, and it makes the job stable and respected.
Judges’ pay should NOT be easily reduced. If politicians could cut judges’ pay, they could control the judges. Judges might feel forced to agree with the government. This would weaken fairness in court decisions. Protecting pay helps protect independence.
If judges are not independent, they might be influenced by political leaders, or they might make unfair decisions. People would lose trust in the courts, and the Constitution would not be protected properly.
The Constitution helps keep judges independent by giving them lifetime appointments (as long as they behave well), protecting their salaries from unfair changes, and separating the courts from the other branches. This keeps the system balanced.
Courts protect people’s rights, decide legal disputes fairly, make sure laws follow the Constitution, and help prevent government abuse. Fairness in courts is very important.
