Europeans were able to settle North and South America because they had the technology to do so.
The conquest of the Americas by Europeans was justified by the adage “to the victors go the spoils”.
When Native Americans protest the loss of their forefather’s lands, they should remind themselves, the tribes of their forefathers lived by the same code when they battled each other. If the roles had been reversed and American Indians had invaded Europe, they would have done the same or maybe even worse.
If Black Africans had the technology to settle North and South America before the Europeans did; and they needed cheap labor to work the fields, would they have enslaved white Europeans? Black Africans at the time were known to have enslaved captured peoples regardless of color. Would the Africans have treated native Americans any differently than the Europeans did? I don’t think so. Look at Africa today and the ruthless dictators who are killing millions of their own people. They still believe the adage “to the victors go the spoils”.
It is a mistake to whitewash (or blackwash) history. If we do not learn from our past mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them until we know better.
