We are the sum of our experiences and perceptions from a life lived in a bygone time. Our children are not us. They are not a second chance for us to live a different life, nor are they clones, obligated to fulfill our unfulfilled ambitions.

We can love, encourage, and guide our children. We can give them historical perspectives, and in some cases offer financial assistance; but we cannot make them into an imagined image. Our children are living in their own time, becoming the product of their own experiences, and developing their own perceptions. We cannot control who they will become.
