Can the national government collect taxes fairly without treating people unfairly?
The government needs money to: Protect the country, build and repair roads, run courts, respond to emergencies, and provide important public services. These jobs cannot be done without money.
Some people worry that the national government will collect taxes unfairly. That is unlikely because representatives are elected by the people, and they want to keep the trust of the voters. The people can replace leaders who do not do a good job.
