How should the President of the United States be chosen?
The Electoral College is a group of people (called electors), chosen by each state to vote for the President. They help decide who becomes President. People do not vote for President directly in one national vote. Instead, they vote through their state electors.
The Electoral College was designed to prevent unfair influence from powerful groups, and that all states have a role in choosing the President. It encourages careful selection of leaders and reduces the chance of a corrupt or rushed decision.
Some people worry that if everyone voted directly large groups could be easily influenced. Candidates might use tricks or manipulation. The process could become chaotic, and the public might not have full information. So, a more structured system was created.
Electors are chosen by each state, they are expected to make thoughtful choices. They help filter and organize the vote. They add an extra layer of decision-making. This is meant to improve fairness and judgment.
